As I write this post I am extremely emotional. This is indeed the dawning of a new day, I must confess I haven't felt this way since the era of the sixties and seventies.
What happened today with the election of an Indigenous person or a "person of color" if you will, is a monumental shift in consciousness for our country and the world. I am so glad that I have lived to see this moment in American history. Its time for a healing to begin, and to discard the old for the new. And let there be no doubt about it, this is going to affect the world not just America. As I watched the coverage of the election and the final results, I noticed that the coverage of this event was worldwide with millions watching. Australia, Kenya, Europe, and all the rest of the world were watching as we made history in this country. The rest of the world seems to embrace this change more then some Americans.
To see tears streaming from the eyes of thousands of people rejoicing and cheering couldn't help but make one well up with emotion. For the people that want to hold on to the old ghost of racism, intolerance, and hate, put it to rest and, join the twenty first century. This country just may have edged a bit closer to love, compassion, and understanding. I don't claim that this will solve all the problems that this country or world faces, but it is a bit of balm for the soul. Maybe I will write more on this later, but for now I will just bask in the feelings of the moment.
